"Portal" means a magical, technical door that connects geographically different locations, or a website that is used as a point of entry to the internet. Portals, Teleportation, an exhibition for a Korea-Turkey culture exchange, employs the portal to teleport our existence between Seoul and Istanbul. By presenting the "portal" that connects Seoul and Istanbul, the exhibition proposes an alternative culture exchange method during the pandemic era.



The night, ‘Beware of that dark door!’

“Have you,” said the doctor, “ever thought of the peculiar polarity of times and times; and of sleep? Sleep the slain white bull? Well, I, Dr. Matthew-Mighty-grain-of-salt-Dante-O’Connor, will tell you how the day and the night are related by their division. The very constitution of twilight is a fabulous reconstruction of fear, fear bottom-out and wrong side up. Every day is thought upon and calculated, but the night is not premeditated. The Bible lies the one way, but the night-gown the other. The night, ‘Beware of that dark door!’”

Based on Nightwood by American modernist writer Djuna Barnes, Portals, Teleportation invites visitors to meet "night watch." The night watch opens the portal—through the dark door—for visitors to teleport themselves into somewhere, presumably located between Seoul and Istanbul, at the night. Amid the night, teleporting or deorbiting allows us to change our cognition of being that often is relegated to the realm of inert, lifeless, inessential matter. Deorbiting our existence from the space where we used to live into the virtual-midnight space unleash ourselves anchored by gravity, regulation and alleged normality. The night is a manifestation of absurdity, wrath and weeping, at the same time, affective and secure space where we can fully disclose ourselves.

‘’Portal’’, farklı coğrafi konumları birbirine bağlayan sihirli, teknik bir kapı ve farklı websitelerinin bağlantılarının tek bir yerde toplandığı bir ana kapı gibi çalışan websitesi anlamlarına gelir. Portals, Teleportation, Kore - Türkiye kültür alışverişi için düzenlenen sergi, varoluşumuzun Seul ve İstanbul arasinda ışınlanabileceği bir portal devreye sokar. Portal aracılığıyla Seul ve İstanbul’u birbirine bağlayan sergi, pandemi dönemi ziyaretçileri için alternatif bir kültür değişimi metodu sunar.



Gece, ‘O karanlık kapıya dikkat!’

‘’Hiç,’’ dedi doktor, ‘’zamanlarla zamanların o kendine has manyetizmasını düşündün mü, ve uykunun? Uyku, o boğazlanmış beyaz boğa. Evet, ben, doktor Matthew-Yüce-toz-zerresi-Dante-O’Connor, sana geceyle gündüzün nasıl ayrılıkları sayesinde birbirleriyle bağlantılı olduklarını anlatacağım. Alacakaranlığın terkibi, bizatihi korkunun mükemmel bir şekilde yeniden yapılanmasıdır, başaşağı edilmiş korkunun. Bütün günler önceden düşünülüp planlanabilir ama gece önceden kestirilemez. İncil bir tarafı gösterir, gecelik öte tarafı. Gece ‘O karanlık kapıya dikkat!’’’

Djuna Barnes’ın Geceyi Anlat Bana kitabından ilham alan Portals, Teleportation sergisi, ziyaretçilerini ‘’gece nöbeti’’ ile buluşmaya davet eder. Gece nöbeti, ziyaretçilerin kendilerini Seul ve İstanbul arasında bir yere ışınlayabilmelerini sağlayacak -karalık kapıya doğru- bir portal açar. Gecenin ortasında, ışınlanmak ya da yörüngeden çıkmak, durağan, cansız ve lüzumsuz madde alemine sürgün edilmiş varlık bilincimizi yeniden şekillendirmemize olanak tanır. İçinde yaşadığımız sanal-geceyarısı uzayının yörüngesinden çıkmak, yer çekimi, düzen ve sözümona normallik tarafından sabitlenmiş benliklerimizi serbest bırakır. Gece, absürdün, öfke ve ağlamanın bir manifestosu, aynı zamanda benliklerimizi açığa çıkarabileceğimiz etkili ve güvenli bir alan.
